Janet Ritchey (President)

Janet is the Coordinator of the Home Library for Burnaby Public Library. She joined the Burnaby Hospice Society as a hospice palliative care volunteer in 2005 and was elected to the Board in 2008. She is committed to helping the Society become better known in Burnaby and, in doing so, extend its reach so that all Burnaby residents are aware of the excellent volunteer hospice care services available to them.

Bonnie Stableford (Vice President)

Bonnie is a retired library manager and a past management consultant for the Lions Gate Hospice Society in North Vancouver. A dedicated, life-long volunteer in many spheres of community life, Bonnie first became involved with the Society as a hospice palliative care volunteer in 2006 and was elected to the Board in 2010.

Randy Lutic-Hotta (Treasurer)

Randy was elected to the Board in 2010 and currently holds the position of the Society’s Treasurer. He holds a CA and CPA designation and has worked for many years in Public Practice. Volunteerism has always been important to Randy in connecting to his community and helping to improve the quality of life for those around him. Besides his involvement with BHS, Randy also volunteers with the Kidney Foundation and the ShoeBoogieMan Foundation.

Eleanor Joughin (Secretary)

Eleanor’s working life included three stints as Administrative Assistant on special projects of the Ministry of Advanced Education. She eventually retired from “paid work” after seven years as the Manager of the Executive Office of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC. Eleanor has been a volunteer cashier for the Society’s Thrift Store since the opening of the store in 2006 and joined the Board in 2009.

Thea Juett (Past President)

Retired Burnaby social worker Thea Juett has been involved in the Society since its inception in 1986 and is the founder of the Burnaby Hospice Society. Besides currently holding the position of Past President, Thea also represents the Burnaby Hospice Society on the Board of St. Michael’s Centre. People who know Thea know that she is a proud mother, an even prouder Nana but the thing she is most proud of is being known as a Burnaby Hospice Society volunteer.

Sharon Hamer

Sharon has been an active member in her community for the past 20 years volunteering in a variety of not-for-profits and charitable organizations which include the Girl Guides of Canada and Grace Lutheran Church. Sharon was elected to the Board in 2010 and currently holds the position of a Board Member at Large.

Shashank Hedao

Dealing with financial matters concerning life and death made Shashank Hedao look deeper into ways he could be of direct help to people going through the end-of-life journey. During his study for a ‘certified senior advisor’ designation Shashank was introduced to the Burnaby Hospice Society and he completed the Society’s hospice palliative care volunteer training program and joined the Society’s Board in 2010.

Helen Mackie

Helen has been involved with the Burnaby Hospice Society since its inception 25 years ago and is a founding member of the Society’s bereavement walking support group. She has served periodically on the Board since the 1990’s and is currently a Board Member at Large. Besides the Society, Helen also volunteers extensively with other community groups including Confederation Senior Centre, Citizen Support of Burnaby and Faith Lutheran Church.

Martin Mroz

Martin was elected to the Board in 2011 and is the Director of Health and Counseling for Simon Fraser University and holds a BSc. in Psych, MSc. in Business and is a Certified Management Accountant. He has served on several non-profit boards in the past and is interested in helping the Society to further the good work that it does in the community. Martin has lived in Burnaby since the mid 90′s with his wife and daughter.

Marilyn Rushton

Marilyn has been a resident of Burnaby for the past 32 years and is an active member of the community with past volunteer stints including Parent Participation Preschools, Beavers and Cubs, Block Parent and various school parent groups and committees. Marilyn served as a Burnaby School Trustee from 1990 – 1999 and is currently a vision teacher with the Vancouver School District. Marilyn was elected to the Board as a Member at Large in 2010.
